BEYOND BASIC SEWING SKILLS

This is a 3-part course for any level sewing enthusiast who wants to fine-tune their fashion sewing skills. Whether you just completed the Basic Sewing class or want to dust-off the skills you learned in school you will enjoy these classes. You may set your own goals by the choice you make in patterns. The more pieces a pattern has, the more detail a garment has, the more techniques you will experience. Each level will deal with fitting.

Level 1 Tuesday 6:00-8:00pm Date: Closed $40 plus supplies

Start off easy with a simple skirt or pair of lounge pants. Our focus will be to practice sewing precise seams, finishing a waist band or elastic casing and hemming.

Level 2 Tuesday 6:00-8:00pm Date: July 8, 15 & 22 $60 plus supplies

We will be making a blouse or man’s shirt in this session. If you don’t quite feel up to the task, you may choose to make a pajama top to go with your lounge pants. The skills will include setting in a sleeve, using interfacing and facings, perhaps a placket and cuffs, as well as buttons and buttonholes.

Level 3 Tuesday 6:00-8:00pm Date: August 3, 12, 19, 26 $80 plus supplies

This class will focus on pants. Few people have the luxury of a perfect fit off-the-rack so we will begin by making a “muslin” to ensure a good fit. You can then use what you learn to make a pair of slacks, complete with waistband, zipper and blind hem or cuff.

Take 1, 2 or all 3 levels. If you register for all 3 classes the total fee is only $160.

BASIC QUILTING SKILLS

This is a 3-part course for any level of sewing and quilting enthusiast. Even if you have never sewn or quilted, you will feel comfortable in this class. If you are accomplished in basic quilt cutting and piecing, but want to learn more about the quilting process or binding techniques, sign up for part 2 and/or 3 only.

Part 1 – We will focus on proper, accurate and safe cutting with rotary cutters, mats and rulers. Techniques for precise seam construction and good pressing habits will also be covered while we construct a 6-block panel that can be used as a tablemat or wall hanging. Wednesdays May 28 & June 4th 1:00 - 3:30 p.m.

$50 plus supplies

Part 2 – This session will cover assembly of your quilt top, batting and backing to be sewn together. We will use a dual feed foot, stitch-in-the-ditch and do free-motion techniques. Wednesday June 11th 1:00 - 3:30 p.m.

$25 plus supplies

Part 3 – Finally, we will learn to bind our quilt project and add a pocket to the back for hanging. Bindings are often cut on the “bias” so we will also learn to cut continuous bias strips. Wednesday June 25th 1:00 - 3:30 p.m.

$25 plus supplies

Sign up for all 3 parts Fee: $85 + supplies
